We love working with kids to get the perfect head shots for their acting or modeling careers. For this type of shoot we like to keep the posing simple and natural. Being kids at heart, we keep the session fun and engaging for your child.
One of my favorite locations in Alameda for family portrait photography is Crab Cove. This is especially true for families with young children, as there is plenty of onsite parking, and a large, safe area for the kids to explore while getting their photos taken. As a photographer, I appreciate the wide variety of backgrounds available in close proximity to each other. This means we can make the most of our session time by taking lots of photos without having to spend much time walking to various locations in order to get a variety of backgrounds.
Crab Cove is a great place to shoot year round – this session took place during the Fall season, after most of the leaves had fallen from the trees. We took advantage of this, and let the kids have some play time with the leaves, which we, of course, captured in their photos!
For families who can’t decide if they want to do their family portraits near the water, with the trees, or in a grassy park setting, Crab Cove is a great choice!
We had a great time with this Class of 2016 Oakland Tech graduating senior, one week before she left for her freshman year at Cal Poly. She booked a deluxe 2 hour session to make sure there would be enough time for the studio shots she wanted, as well as a few outdoor locations.
To make the most of our time, we began the session in the studio where we shot indoors and took advantage of a few of the cool, urban backdrops in the neighborhood.
We did the second half of the session at one of our favorite parts of the Alameda coastline over on Bay Farm Island. This is a great location because there is easy access to the grassy banks along the lagoon, as well as dramatic sunset views.
This was such an amazing shoot to close out the 2016 senior portrait season, and it definitely got us excited to work with our 2017 graduates!
Newborns are so tiny and sweet that it should be no surprise they are one of our favorite types of sessions to do. We recommend newborn photography sessions be scheduled within the first 14 days after birth to be sure we capture that smallest stage of life as babies grow and change so fast!
We got to photograph Baby Ryan at 12 days old and had the best time with this little cutie. He would drift in and out of sleepiness so we were able to get a nice mix of sleeping and awake shots.
Our newborn photography sessions can be booked both in home/on location, as well as at our Alameda studio. We photographed Ryan over the winter, making him our first newborn session at the new studio – pretty exciting! The new room is great for photographing babies – big enough to work in, but small enough to warm up easily for baby’s comfort. Plus a comfy couch for mom and dad to chill on while we work!
We also took time to get some sweet family photos.
Ryan and his family were so lovely to photograph and we are so glad they chose us to document his first days!
TIPS FOR A GREAT NEWBORN SESSION:
- Schedule early! Ideally the session would be held within the first 7-14 days for maximum newborn squishyness!
- Warm the room! A nice balmy 80 degrees is best since baby will be spending a lot of time naked, and we want them to be comfy and warm. If we are working at your home please start to preheat your space 30 minutes before our arrival. This is probably THE most important tip for a great session.
- Personalize your photo shoot! We always encourage you to bring cute outfits, hats, headbands, blankets, and other personal mementos to incorporate into our session.
- Relax! There is nothing your baby will do that we haven’t seen before so don’t stress if your baby fusses, needs to take a break to feed, or pees on us. We use natural, gentle posing techniques so your baby will be comfortable. Their safety is our top priority so you can sit back and relax, knowing you are right there if we need you!
As a small business owners, one of our favorite aspects of the job is to help other small business owners with their photography needs. In today’s social media driven climate, having eye catching, professional quality imagery at hand is more important than ever for the business owner. Many of our clients have remarked on how essential the photos we have done for them have been for the promotion and growth of their small business. That is so rewarding to hear!
One of our favorite clients is Holly Ferguson, owner of Blue Sparrow Pilates in San Francisco and Oakland. We have had the pleasure of working with Holly and her staff multiple times, providing them with images for their website and social media accounts.
No matter what business you are in, having a selection of photographs at the ready makes it easy to keep your social media accounts active. If you are one of the many who finds that keeping up with their social media profiles has become a time consuming chore, you especially can benefit from a photo shoot for your small business. Because those mediums are image driven, posts with compelling professional photography receive more interaction and become more “shareable.”
In addition to head shots, we can also get a group shot of your entire team!
Whether you are in need of photos that highlight your facility, staff, products, or all three – we would love to consult with you about how a professional photo session with us could be beneficial to your business. We utilize a full array of lighting and equipment to make sure you can always show your business at its best!
The instructors at Blue Sparrow are the best in the Bay area. They are all so strong and in shape – shooting with them is always inspirational and keeps us motivated to stay on track with our own fitness goals. Both the San Francisco and Oakland studios are beautiful spaces with friendly and knowledgeable staff. Visit their website or facebook page to learn more about this awesome, locally owned fitness studio.
We recently did business portraits for the LexTax office in Alameda. They contacted us because they wanted untraditional, casual business head shots to use for their website redesign. Rather than shoot on a standard studio backdrop they requested we shoot outdoors at a location that reflected the spirit of the community. For this shoot we took photographs at and around the Alameda Marina, just a few blocks from their office.
We had a great time shooting this two person office and can’t wait to check out their new website. Whether your office is large or small we would be happy to help you get business head shots for your team. We can shoot at our Alameda studio, your office, or any outdoor location. Contact us to book your session today!
With a high fashion concept, and super dramatic location, we knew that this family portrait session was going to be amazing. The photographs did not disappoint! We met at Gray Whale Cove on an overcast afternoon, which acted as a natural soft box to give us a very flattering light. As promised, the family showed up dressed to the nines. Their impeccable styling combined with the breathtaking landscape was the perfect recipe for some pretty amazing family portraits!
During the shoot we photographed the entire family, some of just the kids, as well as some striking portraits of mom and dad!
We continued the shoot through dusk and were rewarded with high drama, vivid imagery.
We love ending our family portrait sessions with a little unscripted fun time where everyone can get their silly on. 🙂
We love romance, so it was so special to be asked to photograph this proposal. Erik really wanted Ashley to be surprised, so with the help of her sister, roommate, and the staff at the Kate Spade store in Walnut Creek, CA he arranged a very special shopping trip for her.
When they arrived at the store, the staff told Ashley that she was the 50,000th customer and was being lavished with gifts!
Finally, a staff member brought out the last gift…
…and Erik dropped to one knee and proposed.
SHE SAID YES!!!
The ring was a stunning Victorian reproduction custom designed by A Touch of Class Jewelers.
We could not be happier for this couple! Congratulations Ashley and Erik!
We recently had a photo shoot with this soon to be married couple in downtown San Francisco. We took advantage of our location to get some fun, modern bridal portraits a few days before the wedding. The pictures are traditional, but with an urban edge. Styling for both the bride and groom provided by Guerrilla Makeovers.
