Personalized Forest Fairy Goddess Shoot – Oakland, CA

Forest Fairy Goddesses Dancing

One of the things I love about being a photographer is the ability to bring a vision to life, and it’s always a special treat when your vision aligns with someone else’s! This shoot is one of those moments.

Tamar is my Yoga instructor, and owner of Tamar’s Training. She is not only a fantastic personal trainer, but also a fun, creative spirit. So when she showed me a picture of photo shoot she wanted to do – a band of fairy goddesses in a forest – I was definitely on board! The concept fit perfectly with my Hidden Realms series.

Tamar has a large number of fabrics, outfits, and accessories from her days as a belly dancer, so we had the wardrobe covered. I have spent a fair amount of time scoping out good outdoor locations for just such a concept, and we settled on Joaquin Miller Park in the Oakland Hills.

Ashley and Erik – Proposal Photography – Walnut Creek, CA

We love romance, so it was so special to be asked to photograph this proposal. Erik really wanted Ashley to be surprised, so with the help of her sister, roommate, and the staff at the Kate Spade store in Walnut Creek, CA he arranged a very special shopping trip for her.

When they arrived at the store, the staff told Ashley that she was the 50,000th customer and was being lavished with gifts!

Krissy & Matt – San Francisco Wedding Photography

Krissy and Matt came out to San Francisco from Tennessee for their small wedding ceremony on Baker Beach. And by small we mean just them, the officiant, a videographer and us!

After the ceremony was over we got to spend some time alone with them on the beach, and then took them to two of our favorite San Francisco locations for super romantic photos. Our first stop was Fort Point, at the base of the Golden Gate Bridge. This spot gets a lot of foot traffic and pretty much everybody had congratulations to give to the bride and groom!

Finally, we took them to the Palace of Fine Arts which is absolutely stunning and always looks great in wedding photos as it practically oozes timeless romance. At the end of our time here Krissy and Matt were surrounded by a group of tourists who were very excited to wish them well, and snap shots of the happy couple!

Sweet Wedding Footwear – San Francisco City Hall Wedding Photography

WOW! Spring has been insanely busy! As the weather gets nicer, people start coming out in the mood for photos! We also were able to squeeze in a mini vacation to S. California (more on that in a later post!), take our son around on college tours, and oh yeah – we can’t forget about last night when we got hours behind on our editing because our dog Lola went out and got herself sprayed by a skunk. Good times!

Somewhere in the middle of all that craziness we shot a wedding at San Francisco City Hall for one of the sweetest, most adorable couples ever. The proof is in their totally awesome wedding footwear. Happy Friday!

A Rogue River Wedding

NaJe and I met at a wine event several years ago, and it turned out that not only was she in the wine industry, but she’s also a jazz singer who was in need of a photographer. I love music and working with musicians so when she asked me to come out to shoot her and the band at Yoshi’s I knew I had to say yes! It turned into a semi regular gig and she quickly became one of my favorite clients, and over wine at Yoshi’s and in the studio (shooting the cover art for her CD) we also became friends.

So, I was thrilled when over the summer she asked us to make the trip up to Oregon to photograph her wedding. I knew she was going to be a stunning bride, and I knew it would be a really great party. (it was!)

The wedding took place in Grant’s Pass at the beautiful and historic Weasku Inn.

They really wanted a wedding where everyone had time to spend time with each other and really be connected to the moment so this was not just one day, but a whole weekend of celebration! The festivities kicked off Friday night with a cocktail hour followed by dinner featuring an amazing salmon that her Uncle Mike had caught. This was the most delicious fish I have ever eaten. Seriously.

And we got to see the t-shirts they’d had made. The groom James works for NASA and she’s a singer so the design really was perfect for them. The graphic was incorporated throughout the wedding on the seating chart, and signature cocktail menu.

Did you notice how even the names of the cocktails bring together jazz and space? It’s always really special when couples share a piece of themselves and make the wedding very uniquely them. These two really pulled that off with lots of little details – like James constructing the wedding arch out of driftwood…

Since I have known NaJe for a long time, and she is one of my very favorite people to photograph I was secretly happy when she was ready for the couples shots before James was because it gave us a chance to spend time together and get some beautiful bridal portraits.
