Road Trip!

The end of the school year had us taking a few days off last week to drive down to Southern California to pick our son Avery up from his first year of college! Since we have a pretty busy summer and fall ahead of us, we decided to make the most of the trip and take the slow route down Hwy. 101. We knew that Avery was going to have a ton of stuff to haul home for the summer so we packed as light as possible and hit the road with our favorite dog Lola!

Our first stop was a light lunch in San Luis Obispo at The Wild Donkey Cafe where they serve both Greek and Mexican cuisine. They have a beautiful garden patio in the back where they welcome guests with dogs. That combined with the amazing Greek food made this place perfect for us! Very yummy, super nice staff and we definitely recommend checking this place out next time you are in SLO.

Next up – Pismo Beach, where we were staying for the night! We’ve visited Pismo Beach before and had a fabulous stay at the Kon Tiki Inn, but they don’t allow dogs there so we had to find lodging in the area that did. Luckily we found the SeaCrest Oceanfront Hotel which has a block of rooms specifically for guests who are staying with their dogs! Lola settled in quite nicely here as you can see! It was definitely nice being able to walk off your patio right onto a gorgeous lawn just a staircase away from the beach! We enjoyed a lovely dinner on our patio, with Lola, looking out at the sunset over the ocean and the beautiful hotel grounds.

Lola enjoyed staying in our hotel room as much as we did!

We also had time for fun the next morning on the beach. We love Pismo Beach for it’s great sand, cool caves and rock formations and general laid back vibe. Lola is definitely a beach dog!

After our morning beach walk we were back in the road, with a plan to stop for more beach going in the Santa Barbara area. Although we had planned to be adventurous and check out some place new, we ended up at another of our old favorites, Goleta Beach Park. We didn’t have too much time to spare here, but it was great spending a couple hours enjoying the sunshine and water with our favorite beach dog!IMG_2413University of Redlands QuadFinal stop – The University of Redlands to load up, and get a good nights sleep to prepare for the long drive back the next morning. It was a super fun, short little trip. As you can see, Lola was definitely very happy to be reunited with her boy! (We were too!)
